| Plant care | Red kale is heat sensitive and grows best at 64 to 72 °F (18 to 22°C). Temperatures higher than 75°F (24°C) can inhibit germination, cause bolting and a more bitter flavor to develop. There is no limit to the number of red kale seedlings per pod. Just let them thrive! Red kale is slow to start, but once it germinates growth will speed up. You can start to harvest gradually about 5 to 6 weeks after planting by picking off the larger outer leaves. Alternatively, you can harvest all your kale at once, approximately 5 weeks after planting for optimal taste and nutrient content. If leaves age more than 2 months, they may lose nutritional value, flavor and their tender texture. |
