PET ACCESORIES
List of safety warnings for PET ACCESSORIES based on the
requirements of Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety
(GPSR):
1. Intended use and general rules
• Instruction manual: Before first use, assembly, cleaning or
replacement of any component, read the instructions supplied with
the product and the documentation for the main device.
• Intended use: Use the product only for its intended purpose and for
the animal species, size, age and weight specified by the
manufacturer. Do not modify the product or use it for purposes for
which it was not designed.
• Product suitability: Choose accessories appropriate to the animal's
behaviour, physical condition and individual needs. If the animal is ill,
injured or recovering from treatment, consult a veterinarian before
using a new interactive, feeding or hygiene product where necessary.
• Limits of use: Cameras, automatic litter boxes, fountains, feeders
and interactive toys support everyday care but do not replace direct
supervision, regular feeding, access to fresh water, hygiene or
veterinary care.
2. Supervision and animal welfare
• Supervised introduction: Introduce the product gradually and
supervise the animal during its first uses. Do not force an animal to
enter, approach or interact with an accessory that causes fear or
stress.
• Signs of distress: Stop using the product if the animal shows panic,
aggression, breathing difficulty, repeated attempts to escape, skin
irritation or any sign of injury. Seek veterinary advice when symptoms
persist or appear serious.
• Safe access: Place accessories so that the animal can approach and
leave them freely. Do not block normal escape routes, resting areas
or access to food, water and litter facilities.
3. Electrical safety and power supply
• Power supply: Use only the supplied or manufacturer-approved
power adapter, charging cable and charging parameters. Do not use
damaged cables, plugs, sockets or power supplies.
• Water and electricity: Keep plugs, adapters, charging ports and
electrical connections dry. Disconnect fountains, automatic litter
boxes and other powered products from the power source before
filling, emptying, cleaning or disassembling them.
• Cable safety: Route cables so that animals cannot chew, pull or
become entangled in them. Do not run cables through water, under
wet containers or across walkways where they may cause a trip
hazard.
• Batteries and overheating: Do not use a product if its battery is
swollen, leaking, unusually hot or damaged. Keep batteries away
from fire, direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Stop using and
disconnect any device that emits smoke, a burning smell or abnormal
heat.
4. Litter boxes and waste handling
• Stable placement: Place the litter box on a level, stable and dry
surface. Maintain the clearances required by the manufacturer and do
not place the product where it could tip over, obstruct a passage or
expose electrical parts to water.
• Automatic mechanisms: Keep hands, tails, paws, fur and loose
objects away from moving parts. Disconnect the unit before removing
trapped material or carrying out maintenance. Never bypass safety
sensors or allow the cleaning cycle to run while an animal is inside
the unit.
• Litter selection and fill level: Use only the litter types and quantities
permitted by the manufacturer. Incorrect litter, overfilling or
underfilling may obstruct the mechanism, reduce sensor accuracy or
cause waste leakage.
• Hygiene: Remove waste regularly, wear protective gloves when
necessary and wash hands thoroughly after contact with used litter.
Clean and disinfect removable parts only with agents permitted in the
instructions, then dry and reinstall them correctly.
5. Fountains, drinkers, feeders and filters
• Water and food quality: Use potable water and food suitable for the
animal. Replace water and remove spoiled or contaminated food
regularly. Do not allow residues, mould, insects or visible dirt to
accumulate.
• Cleaning: Wash bowls, reservoirs, lids, pumps and accessible
channels at the frequency stated by the manufacturer to limit biofilm
and odours. Rinse all parts thoroughly so that no cleaning-agent
residue remains.
• Filters: Use only compatible filters and install them in the indicated
direction. Rinse or prepare a new filter before use if required by the
manufacturer, and replace it at the specified interval or sooner if
damaged, clogged or contaminated.
• Pumps and assembly: Do not operate a pump dry unless expressly
permitted. After cleaning, refit every seal, cover and component
correctly. Check for leaks before leaving the product in normal
operation.
6. Toys and interactive accessories
• Appropriate selection: Select toys of a size, strength and design
suitable for the animal. Products not specifically designed for chewing
must not be used as chew toys.
• Supervision: No toy is indestructible. Supervise play, especially
when the product contains cords, ribbons, feathers, elastic parts,
bells, motors or detachable components that could be bitten off or
swallowed.
• Damage and wear: Inspect toys before and after use. Remove the
product immediately if it is cracked, torn, frayed, deformed or missing
parts, or if stuffing, sharp edges, wires or electronic components
become exposed.
• Motorised toys: Keep fur and paws away from wheels and moving
mechanisms. Switch the toy off before cleaning, adjusting or freeing a
blockage, and store it securely when not in use.
7. Pet cameras and connected devices
• Placement and mounting: Place or mount the camera on a stable
surface outside the animal's reach. Secure the device, cable and
stand so that they cannot fall, be pulled down or be chewed.
• Privacy: Use video and audio monitoring in accordance with
applicable privacy and data-protection laws. Inform household
members and visitors where required, and do not point the camera
towards areas where recording would infringe a person's privacy.
• Account and network security: Use a strong, unique password,
keep the application and device firmware up to date and restrict
access to trusted users. Change default credentials where applicable
and remove access for accounts that are no longer authorised.
• Audio, treat and laser functions: Use two-way audio at a moderate
volume to avoid startling the animal. Use only treats of the permitted
size and consistency. Never direct a laser beam into the eyes of
people or animals and avoid prolonged, compulsive laser play.
• Monitoring limitations: A camera image, motion alert or application
notification may be delayed, interrupted or unavailable. Do not rely on
remote monitoring as the sole means of protecting an animal in an
emergency.
8. Small parts, batteries, packaging and children
• Choking and ingestion hazards: Small parts such as filters, caps,
clips, screws, toy components and mounting accessories may
present a choking or ingestion hazard. Keep them away from animals
and children unless they are installed as intended.
• Button cells and replaceable batteries: Ensure that the battery
compartment is fully closed and secure. Keep loose and used
batteries out of reach. If a battery is swallowed or inserted into the
body, seek immediate medical or veterinary assistance.
• Packaging and cords: Remove bags, films, cable ties and protective
materials before use. Dispose of or store them safely to prevent
suffocation, strangulation and entanglement. Products are not
children's toys unless expressly identified as such.
9. Materials, cleaning, inspection and repair
• Safe cleaning agents: Use only cleaning and disinfecting agents
permitted by the manufacturer. Do not use strong solvents, corrosive
chemicals, essential oils or fragranced substances where residues
could be inhaled, licked or ingested by the animal.
• Material reactions: Stop using the product if contact causes
irritation, hair loss, swelling or another adverse reaction. Clean the
affected area and consult a veterinarian if symptoms persist.
• Technical condition: Regularly inspect housings, fasteners, seals,
filters, cables, plugs and moving parts. Do not use a product that is
damaged, unstable, leaking, excessively worn or operating
abnormally.
• Repairs and replacement parts: Do not open sealed housings or
attempt unauthorised electrical repairs. Use only compatible
replacement filters, pumps, batteries and accessories, and have
repairs carried out by an authorised service provider where required.
10. Storage, transport and disposal
• Storage conditions: Store clean and dry accessories away from
moisture, direct sunlight, fire, extreme temperatures and chemicals.
Keep unused products and spare parts out of reach of animals and
children.
• Electronic waste and batteries: Do not dispose of electrical
products or batteries with unsorted household waste. Take them to
an appropriate collection or recycling point in accordance with local
requirements.
• Used filters, litter and other waste: Dispose of used filters, litter,
animal waste and contaminated components hygienically and in
accordance with local waste-management rules. Do not flush them
down a toilet or drain unless the manufacturer and local regulations
expressly allow it.
Following these rules reduces the risk of injury to people and animals,
product failure, property damage and loss of data or privacy. Ignoring them
may lead to serious health, safety and technical consequences.
